Witnessing is interested in individual submissions or proposals for thematic issues. Submissions are peer-reviewed. The journal’s language is English.
The journal publishes individual articles (6000 to 8000 words), short essays (1000 to 4000 words), interviews (1000 to 4000 words), reflective audio essays, creative non-fiction, and reviews of books, artworks, and exhibitions that have not been previously published.
We are particularly interested in interdisciplinary and/or multidisciplinary approaches from a wide range of disciplines across the humanities, arts, and social sciences, including history, musicology, ethnomusicology, social anthropology, philosophy, sound studies, gender studies, environmental studies, postcolonial studies, critical theory, media and memory studies, art criticism, and artistic practice.
We welcome contributions and collaborations from scholars, researchers, theorists, artists, and activists. The journal is multi-modal. Contributors are obliged to secure copyright permissions before submission.
For a thematic issue, proposal submissions should include an abstract with the issue’s rationale (300 to 600 words), and short biographical notes of editors (100 words each). If no call for papers is anticipated, an outline of the contributions’ topics, authors, and authors’ short biographical notes need to be included.
For individual submissions, contributors should also include an abstract (200 words) and a short biographical note (100 words) in a separate file, as well as any audio-visual material (if applicable).
Audio essay submissions should include sound files (mp3 format), an abstract, and a biographical note. A short text or transcript can also be provided, as well as references, photographs, and other sources.
Please email your submission to Eftychia Georgakopoulou at witnessing[at]eie.gr or to guest editors for special issues.
Authors should use the Harvard Referencing Style and UK English. Endnotes are preferred; their length should be kept to a minimum. References should be provided at the end.
